The 75% rule

It is true in business and I suspect it is true in all social groups from churches to FaceBook and the like. If you want to make the most of these networking opportunities (and they are networking events) you should spend 75% of your time with people you don't know. Most people I know spend most if not all of their time with the people they already know. How much bigger would you social world be if you followed the 75% rule?

Somewhere in my long ago past I heard it said that in matters before the court that if the facts supported your case then you argued the facts; If the facts did not support your case then you argued the law; if neither the facts nor the law supported your case then you attacked the character and person of your opponent. I suspect that is not only true in law but also in all debate and especially in the world of political "debate." What say ye?

I recently was in conversation with an associate about the economy and he quipped, "Them that have do and them that have not, do not." In so doing he jolted my memory and I vaguely remember my father saying that to me when I wanted to do something that was going to cost a bit more than we could afford at the time. However, my dad did not stop with the quote above but added, "You happen to be one of those who 'have not and so you do not.'" I know what he meant by the phrase that day. I would like to hear your take on the: "Them that have do and them that have not, do not?"
